Of course, Cruella steals the show with her outrageous behaviour and outfits, and the movie was probably made because the public wanted to see more of Cruella. We see a lot more of her this time round. I also like Ioan Gruffudd as Kevin, the rather bumbling male lead.  To use Paris as the climax of the movie was a clever idea. Wide-eyed and confused, Jenna runs to find her old friend (Mark Ruffalo, `You Can Count on Me`), who has since grown up to become a struggling photographer, for help. As the two slowly reconnect and try to put past differences behind them, Jenna learns the horrible person she has grown up to be. Armed with her untainted, pre-pubescent heart, she tries to change her ways.  There's no way around it, `13 Going On 30' is dreadfully formulaic, featuring scene after scene of situations that have been covered by a small army of other films within the last few years, as well as being a complete facsimile of the Tom Hanks classic, `Big.' Worse yet, it traffics in smelly `I Love The 80s' pop nostalgia that renders the first 15 minutes of the picture unwieldy and forced. If you look at `13' with one eye closed, there really isn't anything in its favor. That is, if you don't count Jennifer Garner.  I don't condone the level of clichйs readily apparent in `13,' nor do I stand by idle when the film begins to be weighed down by them in the climax. But Jennifer Garner's lead performance single-handedly rescues the worn out `13,' saving it from teen-girl-cinema doom. Garner is a beaming presence in every frame of the picture, sprucing up the dreariest of sequences and the most hoary of clichйs. Having been used to Garner strapped into her tough facade in `Alias' and last year's winner, `Daredevil,' Garner pulls a 180 as she melts down to the eternally excited and curious Jenna. Encumbered with the customary confusion and acceptance routine the time traveling film hands her, Garner makes the tedious material find a happy place through her enthusiasm and failure to recognize when director Gary Winick (`Tadpole') is asking her to look like an ass for a laugh. Garner makes the comedy pop, the nostalgia bubbly (Razzles never had such a sweet product placement), and the icky plot seem somewhat tolerable. It's a great performance.  Garner even survives a dreaded dance sequence, which finds Jenna trying to revive a sagging party with some `Thriller' moves. This type of scene is usually a dead end for a comedy, but Winick and Garner pull some mystical `Matrix' moves and actually find a way to make the moment hilarious. Getting stiff Mark Ruffalo out on the floor is one key to laughter, but having Gollum himself, Andy Serkis (in a supporting role as Jenna's magazine editor) burn the floor with some moonwalking is icing on the cake. Indicative of the entire movie, the centerpiece `Thriller' sequence manages to narrowly avoid embarrassment to become something that enlivens the film even more.  `13 Going On 30' does have some insignificant, but nagging, gaps in logic (why would Jenna act scared of her cell phone, but work a 2004 cordless with ease?), a completely pointless `evil' character (there's enough drama in the situation alone to fill an entire movie), and doesn't have the greatest sense of cutting edge soundtrack selections (if you're not sick of Liz Phair's `Why Can't I' by now, you will be). But `13' is relentlessly sweet, beautifully acted, and is warmly aware of the passionate pre-teen spirit. The first being low-brow comedy on the teenager level a la Road Trip. The other being a moralistic and sappy love story hidden behind the guise of comedy. I am glad I found neither of those in this film.  First off let me say I was pleased with the acting. I could actually feel Josh's pain, and came out of the movie feeling a little sex-starved myself. The rest of the cast was great at what they did and the characters were very well written.  The movie itsself had some of the funniest moments I've ever been treated too... which is always a good thing. It wasn't brimming with nudity, and when there were nude scenes it didn't seem like they were there just for the sake of showing a breast or two. They always fit well and most of the time you wouldn't even realize that they were actually nude... like it was supposed to be like that.  It also had great range. The topic of course could span across any age group for the most part, where as most movies would stick to one. This one however seems like it could be enjoyed by both sexes, and from age groups of early teens through middle aged. It was what you expect from Sandler and he is a very funny guy.  Drew was good and played her role well.  The film was okay and had some good laughs but I just felt it missed something. The film itself is loosely based on his life growing up in Detroit.  Eminem plays Jimmy Smith, Jr. a.k.a. 'Rabbit', a young man who is struggling to make things better for himself through 'battles', which are freestyling rap contests that are usually held at a local nightclub.  Rabbit chokes when it is his turn to take the microphone for the first time.  His best friend, Future (Mekhi Phifer) is the host of these battles and strongly believes Rabbit has potential, but the problem is that Future often makes his decisions before consulting with Rabbit first.  Rabbit's home life is not much better.  He's broke, has no place to live, he's stuck in a dead-end job at a steel mill, and his girlfriend Janeane (Taryn Manning) has fooled him into thinking that she is pregnant.  Rabbit's mother (Kim Basinger), is on the verge of being evicted from her home and is slutting around with a man who is about the same age as her son.  Things in Rabbit's life take a turn for the better when he later falls in love with Alex (Brittany Murphy), an aspiring young woman who dreams of becoming a model and moving to New York to start life a new.  '8 Mile' certainly is a moving and very touching drama.  Eminem proves here that he really can act and in fact may have a future in motion pictures.  This does not mean we will be hearing him thanking his producer Paul Rosenberg next year at the Oscars, but we can expect to him to receive a lot of praise for future movie roles.  It's quite obvious that some people will not like '8 Mile', just because of Eminem's controversial history.  The film also has one of the best soundtracks I've heard in a long time.  Eminem's hit single 'Lose Yourself' really does have a lot emotion put into it.     Eminem, since he burst onto the music scene in 1999 with his critically-acclaimed/lambasted album 'The Slim Shady LP', he has been met with a lot of controversy, as well as praise.  Despite the often humorous content of his songs, there are many dark under tones in them as well.  In my opinion, too much has been made about his lyrics, most of which revolve around topics like homophobia, murder, and his failed relationship with his on/off wife, Kim.  Despite all of this, I think that people have overlooked the fact that he said the only thing that truly matters to him is his daughter, Hailie Jade.  Also, if people believed Eminem really was a homophobic, do you still think he would have agreed to perform 'Stan' with Elton John?    As a longtime fan of Eminem and his music, I try not to let such criticisms get to me, but sometimes you just have to say 'What the hell?  Are they really necessary?'  I don't think so.  The problem is that people today are just too biased when it comes to people like Eminem.  He's not another Vanilla Ice and '8 Mile' is not an attempt to cash in on his success like 'Cool As Ice' was.    I have a list of grievances that people need to realize about Eminem:  - First of all, do not disrespect this man.  I feel that many of the people who hate Eminem have never actually listened to one of his songs.  In my opinion, they have only listened to small clips that have been played on some discussion about his controversial lyrics.  If you actually listened to some of his songs, you'll realize that he is a very distraught young person with a lot to say.  - Don't watch '8 Mile' with a predetermined mindset.  People who have already made up their minds about Eminem's talents are less likely to enjoy themselves much more than people who believe in him.    - To non-believers, if Eminem really did not have any talent, like so many people seem to think now, how is it that all of his records: 'The Slim Shady LP', 'The Marshall Mathers LP', 'Devils Night' (with group D-12) and 'The Eminem Show' together have grossed more than $12 million?  I think that it is a clear sign of TRUE TALENT.  - Also do you believe had Eminem been black and rapping about such 'controversial' subject matter, that he would be famous like he is now?  No, because most likely no one would dare even produce him.  That said, I'm African-American and I don't care that Eminem is white and is rapping about such things.  - I think that too many people have made his race too big of an issue.  Eminem knows that he is white and will be nothing else.  He does not display to us a 'thuggish' image that some people think that any rapper should have.  Also, he does not rap about the things that some people seem to think is destroying rap music.  Eminem does have quite a future in store for him. Assembling a team of experts (including Sanaa Lathan. Colin Salmon, and Ewen Bremner) to venture down beyond the ice, the group quickly gets trapped in the maze-like temple. Once the team figures out the pyramid's true purpose as a hunting ground for the linebacker-like Predators to stalk the slimy aliens, it's too late for the humans as they race against time to save themselves while the two beasts declare war on each other.  'Alien Vs. Predator' is a film made only for those who are gluttons for punishment. Who else in their right mind would want to see writer/director Paul W.S. Anderson take not one, but two healthy franchises with unlimited potential and make a mockery of them both for 90 minutes? Well, maybe 12 year-olds, which this new film is aimed squarely at. All others should just stay at home and save yourself the heartbreak.  Anderson comes to 'AVP' with a terrifying track record in genre films, which includes such rotten titles as 'Soldier,' 'Mortal Kombat,' and 'Event Horizon.' His last film, the yeah-it's-bad-but-convincing-junk 'Resident Evil,' understood the genre rules, or at the very least could pull a little fun out of its hindquarters. 'AVP' doesn't even offer that much. Instead of widescreen genre goodies, Anderson cloaks much of his comatose action sequences in complete and confusing darkness, which also covers the lousy sets and the lousy Predator costumes. Anderson's script is equally as irritating, with one character, an Italian archeologist, spending the entire movie explaining every little detail (including an absurdly staged flashback to the origins of the pyramid) as the film chugs along. Anderson doesn't leave anything to the imagination or to chance, robbing the film of the mystery both franchises once worked overtime to preserve.  Anderson's writing enters even more dangerous ground when he decides to alter some critical 'Alien' and 'Predator' lore. The alien chestbursters in 'AVP' only take minutes to properly develop in their human hosts and eventually live up to their name, as opposed to the days in the previous 'Alien' films. The acidic danger of the alien blood is also monkeyed with without reason, making the classic alien defense only really a threat when Anderson needs a way to help end one of his terribly edited fight sequences. Anderson's redesign of the Predator facial make-up is also a disappointment, with the creature looking even more artificial than it did way back in original 1987 film! This is progress?   The only person who comes out of this mess with any type of dignity is actress Sanaa Lathan, who passes muster even with the achingly bad dialog Anderson has provided her. She's a reliable actress, following in the steps of Sigourney Weaver as a strong female action star. She's deserves better than to act in scenes where she makes friends with 7 foot tall Predators.  The 'AVP' set-up takes a good long time to get going, which is probably Anderson's greatest sin. The last horror match up, 'Freddy Vs. Jason,' had a lightning pace and a macabre sense of humor to get it through that icky feeling of studio cash in. 'AVP' isn't as lucky, and is a downright bore for about 45 minutes before it becomes downright offensive. I don't know which is worse. And get this: 'AVP' is rated PG-13! There's nothing like bringing two horror franchise titans together, who have a total of six R-rated films between them, and watering down their carnage so the little league crowd can see the film on a Saturday matinйe. With an incredible pace Jean-Pierre Jeunet creates a completely unique atmosphere where he plays with luck and predestination. This starts with the conception of Amelie and goes on with important events/traumas in the life of a child. The voice-over works very well here and gives the feel of watching a pseudo-documentary (like Woody Allen's Zelig). The absurdity of many situations and explanations are extremely humorous. The editing and camerawork are key elements to this.  In the second part Amelie lives on her own in Paris. The house and the many characters inhabiting it is reminiscent of 'Delicatessen', except for the dark undertone which is replaced by a more gentler, realistic (although still somewhat surreal) portrayal of Paris residents. In this segment the drama factor plays up, especially when Amelie exposes us to the loneliness of the big city dwellers. Also the game of luck and destiny is reversed: events don't just happen to her but Amelie discovers her presence in the world can make the difference for other persons as well. She starts to influence events: rewarding/encouraging the good and more or less punishing the bad people around her. In this part the pace of the movie is much slower, the voice-over less prominent and some scenes even fall in repetition (2nd punishment of the grocer for example), which lead to the conclusion that the movie would have gained by more editing and deleting in this segment.  Obviously the third part centers around the luck of Amelie herself, the game of luck is again played by her and her would-be lover Nino (Mathieu Kasovitz, internationally famous for La Haine/Hate). She plays a cat and mouse-game with him (and vice versa). The style of this part is a mix of the first two parts and has the best of both.  The story-telling in this movie is very imaginative and the movie feels like a absurd fairy-tale for grown-ups. Audrey Tautou plays Amelie perfectly well as a naive, shy girl who everybody underestimates.  Downsides are the length of the movie: The 'less-is-more'-principle would have created a movie on an equal scale as American Beauty. Furthermore the fragmentary way the story is told (inherent to a documentary style) doesn't always work well either. Also pacing is sometimes way too fast (especially a problem in countries with subtitling), sometimes somewhat slow. (Иванов М.);As I sort through the enormous volume of user comments, I am surprised by how many people disliked this film.  While not perfect, in my opinion, it was at least one of the best films of this decade.  Kevin Spacey gives the best performance in a continually improving career, this guy has been great since he played Mel Profitt on Wiseguy and just keeps getting better.  I think people should stop listening to the reviews, their friends, the user comments on this board, and any other sources of pre-rendered opinions of this movie.  Some people have tried to compare this with The Ice Storm, which tried to be everything that this movie was and failed miserably.  I feel that American Beauty succeeded where TIS did not in that both groups, the adults and teenagers, were well-written and acted.  In TIS, the adult performances were just not very good, although I think much of that had to do with the writing.  One of the more perplexing aspects of the criticism has to do with the 'gratuitous' female nudity.  I am one of the most vocal critics of 'An Officer and A Gentleman' mini-porno sex scenes that have nothing to add to character development and have everything to do with female exploitation.  However, the two scenes of nudity in this film were EXTREMELY important to the film.  The first, Thora Birch exposing herself to Wes Bentley, relates to her lack of self-esteem about her breasts and body. Initially, she is searching Breast Augmentation websites and views herself as unnattractive.  It is exactly that quality that Mena Suvari's character feeds off - someone with lower self-esteem than her who can make her feel good about herself.  Bentley's interest in her makes her realize that she is genuinely beautiful, and her willingness to share her body with him is a great step in her development as a character.  Suvari's scene is even more effective.  As Lester pulls her shirt open, revealing her beautiful breasts and increasing his already powerful sexual desire for her, she reveals that she is in fact, a virgin.  I have never seen a better representation of a penis-deflating moment in my life.  Within the same camera shot, a character changes from a purely sexual creature to a childish innocent.  I would gamble that most men watching this movie had the same reaction that Lester had.  Also, I can't understand why so many people disliked Bening's performance. The complexity of her character is amazing to me. She comes off as a cold, inhuman ice queen, but the displays of vulnerability are very well-done. Remember, Bening doesn't undergo the same epiphany that Spacey does in the movie. She has an affair, reawakens her sexuality, and takes more chances with her life.  But, the couch scene should make it perfectly clear that she is not completely transformed.  Her insecurities are totally obvious as she prepares to confront her husband just prior to his shooting' she still can't open up the way Lester wants her to, the way that she used to in the early years of their marriage.  Finally, the Chris Cooper character may be similar to many of the other macho, militaristic characters we've seen before, but both the actor and the writing give him so much more depth than the cliche-ridden caricature that many have criticized him as being.  This is a man who has destroyed the mental health of his wife and very nearly his son because he is latently a homosexual.  you can see how tortured he is by his own self-loathing from the very beginning' he is not a hateful antagonist, but another pathetic example of how the roles society expect us to play can torture us with their limitations.  American Beauty is an incredible example of how compartmentalized our society has become' very much the epitome of the folk song 'Little Boxes'. We isolate ourselves in our cookie cutter homes, going to ubiquitous fast food chains and mini-malls' sitting in our car for the two hours of our commute, we blind ourselves to the existence of beauty in the person sitting in the car next to us.  We sit in cubicles all day long, sacrificing social interaction for the painful isolation of a computer screen that slowly but surely sucks the life out of us.  We come home to a family that no longer has any desire to interact with each other - they're too wrapped up in their own trips.  Eventually, the years pass us by, leaving us to reflect on the people we once were so long ago.  Lester shows us that that person never truly dies but just goes on an extended vacation, waiting to be reawakened. In his death, Lester is resurrected' the final moment of realization reflected in Kevin Spacey's face as the gun slowly moves to the back of his head is one of the most beautiful ever put on film. There's excellent songs on the soundtrack. Some of the earlier American Pie cast are missing but this movie is still enjoyable. Some very funny scenes: the dogs in the kitchen, Stifler putting on a nice-guy act, the 'truffle', the nightclub dance to an 80s megamix. But much of the story is contrived and the engaged couple are too dull. The ending with Stifler's mom was done already in AP2. Viggo Mortensen, is now well on his way to being a major star thanks to Peter Jackson's Tolkien trilogy, but many of us have been following his career for quite some time, since Sean Penn's brilliant 'The Indian Runner' say.  Mortensen is excellent as 'Nick' an undercover FBI agent who infiltrates the Yakuza, and finds himself caught between his obligations and his loyalties, especially when a gang war with the Mob escalates. Ryo Ishbashi ('Audition') plays Sawamoto, the Yakuza who becomes Nick's friend and mentor, and Michael Nouri ('The Hidden') plays Sawamoto's Mafia rival Campanela. The rest of the cast includes comedian Franklyn Ajaye ('Carwash') as Nick's contact, Robert Forster ('Jackie Brown') as his boss, Nicky Katt ('The Limey') as Campanela's right hand man, and Yuji Okumoto ('Brain Smasher... A Love Story') as one of Sawamoto's crew. This is by no means the best crime thriller I've ever seen but thanks to the great cast I enjoyed watching it. Robert De Niro and Billy Crystal reprise their roles as Paul Vitti, the ex-mob boss who breaks with Mafia protocol by poring out his problems to a sympathetic shrink, and Dr. Ben Sobol, the psychiatrist who helps Vitti cope with the stresses and crises that go along with his unconventional occupation.  Unfortunately, this time around, these two fine actors have been saddled with a screenplay (by Kenneth Lonergan) that is little more than a collection of crude, vulgar one-liners that land with a resounding thud every time the characters open their mouths to deliver them.    In this installment Paul has faked insanity in order to be released early from prison and Ben is the poor schmuck who has to watch over him to make sure he doesn't get into any trouble.   Director Harold Ramis fails completely in bringing any of this to comic life, with poor De Niro and Crystal reduced to performing shtick comedy routines in a vain attempt to carry it all off. The marvelous Joe Viterelli as `Jelly,' the poker-faced mobster with the heart-of-gold, provides what few moments of pleasure the film is able to muster.  At various points in the movie, Paul performs a medley of songs from `West Side Story,' which would be fine in itself except that it merely serves to remind us of how much we would rather be watching THAT movie than this one. For a movie like this to succeed past a commercial level, chemistry between the main characters must be amiable and spirited. Crystal and DeNiro indeed mold amiable incentive between themselves, therefore quite a few hilarious moments emerge from their perception of the well-written script by Kenneth Lonergan, Peter Tolan, and Ramis himself.    'Analyze This' details the lives of two very different individuals. The first person is played by Billy Crystal, a calm, cool, and collected psychiatrist named Ben Sobol, who is divorced with a young teenage son and is engaged to soon wed a resigning TV reporter named Laura MacNamara (Lisa Kudrow). Ben is currently dealing with a emotional patient (Molly Shannon) distressed because her spouse left and filed a restraining order on her. This woman's problems will seem like nothing when Ben obtains his new client.   	Robert DeNiro plays the second person this movie examines, the most powerful mobster in the city of New York, Paul Vitti. He and his accomplices, including a chubby and clumsy bodyguard named Jelly (Joe Viterelli), are in the process of significant business when Vitti experiences an anxiety attack. On the road to a nervous breakdown, this emotionally vulnerable man comes to Ben after Jelly briefly encounters the therapist during a minor car accident. Ben is very nervous with his new patient, who forces compliments and demands upon him.   	The first confrontation sequence between Ben and Paul is quite engaging. There is an instant odd couple chemistry among the two characters. The witty sessions Sobol and Vitti consummate are also very imaginative and smart. The scenes also have the intelligence to take Vitti's emotional problems seriously.     The setup accurately introduces both the gangsters and the psychiatrist's family. We understand the mob boss's feelings of stress and depression' this picture is not all shallow slapstick comedy, there is a dimensional human touch. The film takes its conflicts seriously, but executes them in a cute humorous style. The audience can also relate to Billy Crystal's character, who is an average Joe with a typical American family in a complicated situation in which he is not entirely sure how to handle.  Both external and internal conflicts are interestingly accomplished, well structured, presented, and written. The film does a good job of convincingly bringing the world of mobsters to life with well-cast actors and their rich, stylish accents.   Paul Vitti's sexual life needed more exploration' although his adulterous intentions do induce a few laughs, the story could have gone somewhere with his infidelity. Vitti's family is also irresolute. The film almost never portrays them on screen and seldom does Paul himself discuss his children and wife. The Lisa Kudrow character is furthermore underwritten, never thoroughly examined and very shallow. The lack of chemistry amid Kudrow and Crystal leads to the unconvincing relationship Ben occupies.   	Robert DeNiro is the perfect option for the comic role of Paul Vitti, who is a more difficult character than it may appear. DeNiro triggers a sharp comic edge and gives the right amount of exaggerated sentimentality to Vitti. Lisa Kudrow is fun to watch, producing a dim-minded character whimsically similar to the one in her hit TV sitcom 'Friends.' Chazz Palminteri and Joe Viterelli contribute different but energetic supporting roles.   	'Analyze This' is unmistakably the right kind of movie for Billy Crystal. I am unaware of another Hollywood comedian who could have conquered his role with more proficiency and mirth' he is one of the main components that makes 'Analyze This' work well. Когда он ехал по шоссе, то отчетливо увидел на дороге морского котика, в результате чего сорвался с горы и почти отдал богу душу. Смутно он помнил каких-то животных, людей в медицинских халатах, а потом его кто-то подвез домой. И тут стали происходить с ним странные вещи: соседская собака, постоянно на него нападавшая, вдруг его испугалась. Когда он вышел из душа, на спине были огромные операционные шрамы и шерсть на заднице. Отряхнулся он при этом, как собака. На работе он узнает, что на работе его не было 8 дней. Бегать он стал со скоростью скаковой лошади. Франкенштейн собрал свое существо из частей трупов, а Марвину ученый, экспериментирующий с пересадкой органов животных, пересадил органы разных зверюшек, чем и сохранил ему жизнь. Да, он подарил ему жизнь, но вместе с этим и множество инстинктов, которые проявляются в самые неожиданные моменты. Самые невинные из них этоигры с собачками Лианны, ловля палочки и тарелки. У него появился редкий нюх, который помог, например, учуять наркотики в трусах курьера в аэропорту. Собственно говоря, на этом и построен сюжет этой семейной комедии. Марвин еще познакомится со своим спасителем, будут еще встречи и с Лианной и много других приключений. I enjoyed Deuce Bigalow, and all (except for Big Daddy) of Adam Sandler's movies.  So I basically was expecting some (Ok, a lot) of low-brow humor, a decent plot to keep rolling through, and to laugh throughout the movie.  This movie provided just that.  It wasn't the greatest comedy in the world, or a landmark motion picture, and it wasn't made to be that.  Colleen Haskell's skills at acting reminded me of when they put a 'famous' non-actor on Saturday Night Live, and don't give them too much to do in the skits.  She's only in the movie probably a total of 15 minutes, but does what they ask of her, and does a decent job of it.  The movie is a hoot, and doesn't actually stoop to every joke being a f**t joke.  I laughed about every 3-4 minutes, and enjoyed the ending as well. Антц идет выручать свою любимую и спасает муравьев-рабочих.  (Иванов М.);The trouble with making a children's film has always been to keep the kids happy but avoid making Mum and Dad fall asleep. Disney have always stuck to a solid 'one cute song for every acidic aside' ratio which meant that the over-15's got Robin Williams and Eddie Murphy doing a stripped down routine whilst the 10 year olds got pretty pictures, cute animals and plenty of slapstick. This is what has made the House of Mouse the dominant toon makers but their mastery is under attack from Dreamworks SKG. While Walt & Co. delivered Mulan, Mr. Spielberg gave us Prince of Egypt and though Disney won, narrowly, the next round isn't going to be so easy.  Antz is brilliant. Don't let anybody tell you differently. We've got stunning visuals, great jokes, some brilliant scenes and some very likeable characters. What we have is a very smart film. Maybe too smart. The jokes are funny if you're old enough to get them. The sight of a neurotic ant lying on a therapist's leaf complaining about his anxious childhood is hilarious. Especially when the biggest neurotic in the world, Woody Allen, is delivering the lines. His timing, throughout the entire film, is exquisite and the script takes advantage of this at every opportunity i.e.:  Mandible: I like an ant that laughs in the face of death.  Z: Actually I stand behind Death and make belittling comments at its back.  It reads like one of Woody's early, funny films (sorry, but I couldn't resist it) and the rest of the cast are good too but that's because the script takes advantage of their history. Weaver acts like Stallone, Cutter acts like Walken and Barbatus acts like Glover. Anybody that's seen one of their films instantly recognises the voice behind the ant because of how they speak and act. They also bypass the sing-along route and insert a grisly battle sequence similar to Starship Troopers. The adults in the audience will love it. Children may be a little underwhelmed.  How many kids have seen an Allen, Stallone or Walken film? Not many I expect. How many kids have seen Troopers or Metropolis, (which is a big inspiration for the visuals)? Very few. There are a lot of jokes they just won't get. They may enjoy the pretty pictures but there's a distinct lack of cuddly animals, obvious slapstick or happy tunes. Boredom may set in and there may be a few cries during the battle sequence so be ready. Another downside is a slightly weak villain. Hackman does well with what he has but it's not much and truly cool bad guys like James Woods' Hades run circles round him.  Despite that Antz is a blast. As funny and enjoyable for adults as a child-orientated flick could be. It's not the best toon but it's a definite step forward. Much has been made of the personal risks taken by this filmmaker and crew, and the mapping to the metaphor of war:  Coppola, already rich and famous for the lush but pointless `Godfather' films, reaches into his soul and decides to risk it to do something important. He deliberately chooses Conrad's metaphor of personal journey, and creates a multi-layered structure: the sense of Man in society, the `reason' of War, colonial wars and the specifics of Vietnam, the meeting of darkness of self at the end of the hero's journey, and at the lowest layer, Coppola's own quest for import as an artist.  When I saw this over a couple decades back, I thought it a failure: earnestness does not equal art, commitment does not deliver skill, Italian passion outraces German nihilism.  But now, with the `restored' footage, I have a completely different take. I still think it a failure overall, but with some powerful images. As with the Doors, its aspirations were too large for the ability, the vision too grand for the reach. But now with the passage of time, the metaphor has had a polar switch.  Twenty years ago, the War was a simple affair: confusing at the bristles, jaded selfishness at the handle. With the passage of time as we learn more, the War has `become' incredibly more complex and unfathomable. Now with the film: it started life as huge, unfocused mess. Over a long period, with radical paring and the addition of a very competent framework of sound, something resulted. Unfocused still, but powerful enough to engage. Over time and repeated viewings, this work has been overgrown by personal probings, and integrated into the imaginative landscape like an incompetent building becoming a fond element of the cityscape. So as the war becomes less pegged in our minds, this film becomes more comprehensible, more whole.  With repeated personal handling, this film has become `true.' Think of this: it now has such a clear center that the filmmaker can `enhance' that message. It is now so coherent, it begs for addition. And the three main additions are so, so very apt and self-referential:  -- The French plantation takes its reason to be from the mere fact that it has been. That is precisely what this film has become: a colonizer of our minds that now makes its own sense to be there.  -- The playmates. Sex -- even exploitative sex -- domesticates.  -- The extra exposure of Brando. Here was a tiger, a man whose presence tore through our minds, who changed the world, who mesmerized. He went down his own personal river before this film and was defeated. Here he shows up in a character who is precisely the actor (with a wildeyed acolyte Hopper similarly spanning fiction and reality). Wasn't clear when the film was new, but is now. These are not the winners we see, but the losers. The horror.  To prepare for this redux, I watched the three `Wallace and Gromit' films. Here also was a personal vision, explored at first with extreme commitment, at high cost in the face of detractors. Working by himself for 7 years produced the first film. It was shockingly weird. The second (and probably the best) was a low-budget collaboration with one other monk. As with `Apocalypse,' this film invented itself, by charm insinuated itself into the familiar as if God had put it there all along. Then by the third film, with scores of people, the magic is transformed to cultural momentum.  But there is hope: `Apocalypse' hangs on the War, and though that metaphoric connection is severed, it still stays on the shelf we first placed it: as a war movie. And there are other war movies. And since films are seldom about reality and instead about other films, we can rely on others to give us distance from this foreign invader. (Иванов М.);What can I say about an almost perfect Ron Howard movie about the most exciting near tragedy involving men in space?  It is just a fine movie through and through. The fact that it is a true story just makes it all the better.  I saw the DVD version, which has several 'extras', including their techniques for simulating the rocket launch scenes.  Also most instructional was the featurette showing how they used the 'vomit comet' (simulates weightlessness) to shoot all the scenes of men floating in the spaceships. Very innovative movie-making. I had predicted months ago that this would be a flop and if I could predict this what are the studios excuse? Story is based (Sort of) on the Jules Verne story but here the main character is Passepartout (Jackie Chan) who has robbed the Bank of England and stolen a jade buddha that belongs to his village in China. The police are looking for him so he gets hired as a valet for an inventor named Phileas Fogg (Steve Coogan) who makes a bet with the president of the Explorers Club Lord Kelvin (Jim Broadbent) that he can travel around the world in 80 days or quit as an inventor. Passepartout uses this as an opportunity to get a free ride back to China and together they venture off but Lord Kelvin has some tricks up his sleeve to try and stop him.  *****SPOILER ALERT*****  Lord Kelvin has hired a Chinese warlord named General Fang (Karen Mok) to try and stop them along with sending an undercover police officer to follow them. Fogg and Passepartout stop at many places on their journey and while in France they meet a pretty and plucky woman named Monique La Roche (Cecile De France) who comes along with them much to the chagrin of Fogg. During many of their stops they run into Fang and her henchmen and a battle ensues where Passepartout uses his martial arts to help them escape. While in China Fogg discovers that Passepartout is really Lau Xing who returns the jade buddha but Fogg is hurt that he was lied to but their journey continues and the days start to dwindle down.  This film is directed by Frank Coraci who has worked mainly for Adam Sandler and while the film is directed with a modicum of energy you have to ask yourself if you really want another version of this story starring Jackie Chan. The film moves along at a pretty quick pace and every time the characters stop long enough to speak a few lines of dialogue Chan gets involved in a fight where he has to use karate. I guess it's 2004 because Hollywood has remade a classic story and added karate! This film is totally preposterous and if Jules Verne were alive today he would hire a team of lawyers and sue everyone he could. I didn't hate this film and it's really not worthy of anyone's real attention but this is a misfire and an expensive one at that. Even with a first rate cast this would have been a hard sell but to make a film that costs over 100 million dollars and the big star is Jackie Chan is ludicrous. One of the few things that I did like was the actress De France who brings legitimate charm to her role and she reminds me of Brittany Murphy. Many cameos are sprinkled throughout the film like Macy Gray, Rob Schneider, Mark Addy, John Cleese, Luke and Owen Wilson and Kathy Bates pops up towards the end as the Queen of England. Arnold Schwarzenegger plays a vain Turkish Prince wearing a dark curly wig and trying not to sound Austrian and I'll let everyone make their own decision on this role. Back in 1957, in Not of the Earth, one could recognize the aliens because their eyes were pupil-less. They almost never took off their sunglasses, no matter how dark the night. In 1996, thanks to computer generation, The Arrival aliens have knees that bend the wrong way. In their undisguised state they are bald, Kate Moss skinny, and able to leap tall buildings in a single bound. No need to rely on hokey contact lenses, when high technology can create any visual effect imaginable. The story lines have not progressed as much as the technology, but that can be a positive. The Arrival often feels reassuringly like those ingenuous '50s favorites, Invaders From Mars or War of the Worlds. Sheen plays a gung-ho radio astronomer, who monitors machinery designed to pick up messages from space. The nights are usually long and uneventful without much air play. One night he finally gets a call. Wrong number or intergalactic static? When his superiors blow him off, Charlie rigs up his own receiver and follows the clues to Mexico, where aliens are indeed gathering (sounds just about right!). When he and a lady meteorologist start getting nosy, the extraterrestrials get rough. They don't pull out fantastic ray guns or destroy the humans with telepathic brain waves. I was very surprised when I saw it for the first time.  Splendid and amusing 'Astйrix & Obйlix contre Cйsar' was a fascinating motion picture. The world, the atmosphere and the characters of the original comic books was brought to life so skillfully the end result was a real work of art. I was naive enough to thought that it would be simply impossible to create even a better film adaptation out of Astйrix's timeless adventures.  Therefore I find it quite incredible to realize that the sequel surpasses it. 'Astйrix & Obйlix: Mission Clйopвtre' puts me in a situation where I'm running out of superlatives. It's hilarious as hell and well, better every way.  It captures everything that's funny in the original comic book and cleverly adds numerous wonderful new moments and jokes. It makes gentle parody out of various movies and genres from spaghetti westerns and 'Titanic' to 'Star wars' but still avoids looking like a Leslie Nielsen movie. That silly Bruce Lee-oriented kungfu fight at the end of the film is simply marvelous!  The actors are magnificent, Clavier And Depardieu still make an excellent pair in the leading roles. This was a bloody enjoyable and miraculous experience and it really makes me wish for part three. The music was largely instrumental but that was perfect for the movie.  This was definitely not a film that needed the characters to bust into song. Она выигрывает, снимает шлем и постепенно приходит в себя.  Зовут ее Эш. Выиграла она приличные деньги, но организовывать собственную команду отказывается. Эш предпочитает играть в одиночку. Командует всем в этой игре таинственный Мастер. Тот, кто выйдет на последний уровень, но проиграет, ждет кома, но Эш хочет выйти на этот уровень и, наконец, вырваться из серой повседневной жизни и почувствовать вкус полной свободы.  Мне лично в этом фильме, больше напоминающем компьютерную игру, понравилась футуристическая эстетика условности реального, раз возникла нужда в создании искусственного мира. Эскапизм. Если это осуществится в ближайшем будущем, каждый будет выбирать свой мир, покупая его, как диск, или создавая на свой вкус. Прекрасно выбрана визуальная стилистика первых уровней. Посмотрите этот фильм. Даже если Вы никогда не видели компьютер, сам сюжет фантастического фильма может понравиться. В каком мире мы живем? Вы уверены, что он реален, если с такой легкостью каждый день на планете люди убивают друг друга. Куда попадают их души? На следующий уровень? It had all the premises for me to like - new science fiction stuff, beautiful cinematography, great acting by the Polish team. However, the combination of the action game thriller with poetic science fiction (a la 2001 or Solaris) did not work for me. I could not follow the logic, the final was totally un-convincing and did not explain too much of what I had seen previously. If I have a chance to see it again, I will give it another chance. A shipment of E offers the chance for the duo to get to a new drug lord muscling in on the area, however they find themselves up against undercover DEA agent Sydney Burnett (also Marcus's sister and Mike's casual lover) as well as various gang members, in their quest to take him down and get the drugs off the streets.  Of all the big summer blockbusters and sequels this year, Bad Boys 2 was the one that most surprised me by it's existence.  It had been so long since the first film that I wondered why they bothered but I was actually interested in seeing it – I like action, like Lawrence (although I know I shouldn't) and like Union.  Seeing the film I must admit to mixed feelings – I know that the film is silly and very weak in many areas but I still found it enjoyable.  The energy it brings is almost enough to carry it off.  The action scenes are pretty enjoyable, the highs being the 360 gun battle and the freeway chase.  However the film seems to want to shock us with it's violence and the chase with the coroner's van is in really poor taste.  Likewise some of the deaths are unnecessarily bloody and unpleasant and were real turnoffs to me.  The plot is the film's main weakness.  Thinking back I still find it difficult to see how it all flows together (it doesn't) and much of the plot stands out as either being a real stretch or being totally illogical.  The action and noise pretty much covers this, but it is a real weakness.  I could just about cope with this for the majority of the film but then it has a 20 minute climax in Cuba which is so ludicrous and overblown that I couldn't believe it. Trust me – if you are enjoying the film, leave when it has it's first low key conclusion and don't let it get spoilt by this silly action man stuff.  At over 2 hours the film is too generous and really could have done with a more vicious edit (some of the banter could have gone, along with that ending), and it does try to do too much at times, wandering away from the plot for some (albeit funny) side comedy scenes (the funniest being the duo confronting a boy who has come to take Marcus' daughter out on a date).  The end result is that it all feels very overblown, but still manages to be surprisingly enjoyable.  Why Smith returned for this I don't know – maybe he didn't want to be seen to be going too serious with his roles and thus wanted to keep his hand in.  He is average here and is just slumming it, reprising his lines from the first movie.  Lawrence is better but also gives his usual performance – he is not great but I always enjoy him when he is allowed to act out.  Although he looks a little chubby and worse for wear he still gets enough laughs to hold the film together.  Mollа's bad guy is enjoyably over the top, a throwback to Scarface but also a mother's boy with a plump daughter!  Union is underused and only seems to exist to set up the horrid climax.  She looks sexy in every scene and I like her, but removing her character would not have hurt the film and would have allowed a needed but in running time of about 30 minutes.  Pantoliano comes back to his old role and is amusing with his new age stuff (although it does get a bit old) and Randle also returns but has even less to do than in the first film – plus side though is that she looks amazing in the swimsuit they stick her in!  Rollins just looks happy to be getting his face in a blockbuster regardless of how much screen time he gets.  Overall I felt that this was a very weak and absurd action film that still managed to be enjoyable despite it's many, many weaknesses. Jamie Foxx can deliver in any circumstance whether it is a action comedy, football drama, or even a booty call, he call give a good performance.  He plays Alvin Sanders (Foxx), a prawn theif who gets some info on a gold robber from a bunk mate in jail.  Some time later, the feds want to catch the gold thief (Doug Hutchinson plays this villain better than the villain in The Green Mile) so they plant a transmittor in Sanders hoping to snif out the guy, but then, Sanders turns out to be a lot different then the feds though.  Part Enemy of the State because whenever Sanders has the bug on him, you have that thought in the back of your head telling you that no matter what Sanders is in, he is being heard by the feds.  But also part comedy because Foxx can bring laughs up just by having a conversation with his criminal brother (Mike Epps).  Somewhat ludicrous ending, but it doesn't matter in a film like this. Anyone who has been close to the frailties of the human mind will appreciate how respectfully and honestly this film approaches the subject.  Howard is able to portray all the complex reactions to mental illness while maintaining the humanity and dignity of the patient. (Иванов М.);In the inaptly named `Bedazzled' - a virtually laughless remake of a 1967 Peter Cook/Dudley Moore comedy - the old Faust legend takes one of its severest beatings ever.  I've seen the original film only once before - at a revival theatre in the mid 70's - and remember finding it to be a fresh, original and occasionally laugh-out-loud hilarious British comedy. Unfortunately, none of those adjectives can be applied to this newest version, which strands Brandan Fraser and the stunning Elizabeth Hurley in 90-minutes worth of repetitious humorless nonsense.  Strike one against this film is that it is basically a one-joke concept stretched out to be a full length feature film - sort of like a 90-minute version of a mediocre `Bewitched' episode.  Hopelessly nerdy Elliot (Fraser) - who is such an overbearing geek that his coworkers are forced to run and hide when he comes in their vicinity - makes an idle wish one day to be with the beautiful young woman he loves and yearns for from afar.  Enter Hurley as the devil who takes Elliot in hand, promising him that he will be granted seven wishes on the understanding that his soul will be required as final payment.  What Elliot doesn't understand is that making a bargain with the `Father of Lies' - even if in the guise of a beautiful woman - virtually guarantees that each wish will, in some way, fall far short of securing him total happiness.  Since the 1967 original managed to make a genuinely funny comedy out of the very same material, we must assume that the failure of this version lies not in the premise but in the execution.  So where did this particular group of filmmakers go wrong?  Part of the problem may lie in the fact that Brandan Fraser, though a likable enough actor on the surface, is hardly a gifted subtle comedian on the level of Dudley Moore.  Elizabeth Hurley, easily one of the most stunningly gorgeous actresses working in films today, looks sensational in the part of the temptress and she does convey a certain sly sexiness that might have worked if the jokes had simply been funnier.  Here too is part of the problem - the weakness of the script.  The scrapes Elliot inadvertently wishes himself into are simply not very imaginative or humorous.  One of the funniest sequences I have ever seen in a film actually occurs in the original `Bedazzled,' when Moore finds himself stranded in a convent filled with nuns bouncing on trampolines.  This film could have used a few bouncing nuns I think.  Instead, Elliot's adventures come across as hopelessly mundane in their nature and, even worse, the caricatures he is called upon to act out in many of the scenes border nearly on the grotesque. Perhaps, Jim Carey might have been able to pull this part off.  You know you're in trouble when, as a viewer, you begin to count off how many wishes the main character has already used up.  If it weren't for the eye-candy provided by Ms. Hurley, `Bedazzled' would truly be hell on Earth. As it is, it seems more like purgatory.  Now if only we could figure out which sins we are being forced to atone for. He is still the same loveable character with some form of repressive behaviour. This time around, he plays Sonny Koufax, a law graduate who works as a gate toll man at a car park one day a week. For the rest of his time, he seems to sleep...big time!! That is until, by a twist of fate, he is lumbered with the job of looking after the son of his friend, Kevin(who doesn't know he has a son and is out of the country). Cue much mirth as father figure and son bond. Check out Sonny's attitude to spillages and the constant ribbing of his friend, Corinne for working at a particular type of bar while she was at medical school. The twin boys who played Julian managed throughout the film to be cute rather than sickly sweet and just downright irritating. The child's crying did get annoying from time to time but that only shows why Sonny always got annoyed  too. Adam Sandler manages to deliver one of his better performances (but that really isn't a compliment after 'The Waterboy') and manages to portray a man who falls in love with a child quite well. Joey Lauren Adams turns in a mediocre performance as the love interest. The twin boys are quite convincing , whilst the fabulous Steve Buscemi steals a slice of the limelight as a homeless guy. As a film, it should mostly please but be ready with the sick bucket in one of the most farfetched scenes of cinema in recent years when every man in the courtroom start declaring their love for their fathers. The opening does smell strongly of franchise potential, being repeated in all the inevitable sequels still to come. Once past this though, we are lead through a massive fight and action scene that sets up the whole movie. and warns anyone who can't stand Hong Kong action scenes that they are probably watching the wrong screen.  The movie is essentially a platform for Snipes to have fun with his most renowned character. And he does so with very entertaining results. The movie has reasonably well rounded characters, suspicion piled on top of everyone, some amazing set pieces and a good sense of humour. The impact of all the blood and guts is reduced by the obvious fantasy of the fights (wires and SFX a lot of the time), but its still pretty powerful.  The lead performances are all very good, although some of the peripheral characters are a little too hammer horror. Luke Goss demonstrates great potential, although you would need to see him without the make up, body doubles, and special effects to really judge. and there is occasionally that urge to shout 'when will I be famous.' and the pure blood female vampire who takes a shine to blade is well worth being bitten by. I suppose you know by now that this is a dud, and why. What amazes me is when so my money is on the line, why not spend a few quarters and get some talent involved? I know this can be done, because amidst the blockbuster livestock droppings we have encountered this year is the `Chamber of Secrets' project. Now in this case, there's some really big bucks involved -- not so many more in the cost of production, but in the potential payoff in the aftermarket for the king of the franchise series.  That film had an art-film consciousness in how it used space. Probably cost them a tenth of a percent of the budget to get some clever artists involved. But not here: superficially we have the same formula: good girl and bad, evil, world-aspiring maniac and his assassin character, episodic gimmick-action, multiple exotic locations, bedhopping babes, blaring music. But not a single one of these registers on the Bond-o-meter.  Its as if a once-influential character when through a DNA swap and came out the other end as a lifeless bag of energy determined to herd us like sheep, after a torture session. Oops. I gave it away.  The redhead Moneypenny is sexier than Berry. Wow, wouldn't Saffron Burroughs have been good? All beauty beyond shape is created, and Saffron knows a few things about the camera that Berry does not.  The one thing I found interesting was the ice palace, where much of the action takes place. It's a strange mix of styles: mostly Macdonald's meets Sydey Opera House on the outside: lot's of swoops and drama. But dreary Turkish masonry-like inside. I suppose they were done by different people, different firms even. Борн уговаривает немецкую студентку Мэри (Франка Потенте) отвезти его в Париж, чтобы выяснить все о своем прошлом и понять, кто хочет его убить...;Doug Liamn's The Bourne Identity, from a novel by Robert Ludlum, is intriguing, has plenty of tense/energetic scenes, and also, slower paced ones made to create a keen semi-spy effect- has originality too, which you wouldn't expect from a thriller from the Hollywood gene pool of late.  Damon is Bourne, or was Bourne, before he was found floating in the ocean and picked up by a fishing boat where he has a couple of bullets in his back and, more importantly, a Swiss bank account in his hip.  This is useful, since the man has Amnesia, can't remember who he is, but can remember all of the old tactics from his past in instinct fashion.  This then sets him off on his mission to Paris, along with gypsy Potente, and the CIA, following his moves.    You might sport familiar material, but Liman counter-acts with a structure, scene for scene, that keeps constant exhiliration.  Add to that, Damon gives off persistance of character that pays off all the way to the last scene.  A full out action movie that works on kinetic and thinking levels' either 10-15 or possibly 5-10 on my best of the year list.  Grade: (strong)  ;XviD;1250;AC3;448;640x272;23,976;Дубляж;;701+695;2
